How can I further my career in the food industry?

The food sector is an ever evolving market and here at Harper Adams we are keen to pursue research into this dynamic industry.  Undertaking a postgraduate degree in Food Industry Management or a Master of Research can give you the opportunity to explore the relationship between sustainable foods, technology in the industry, and the best products to satisfy a demanding consumer audience.

Jane Eastham, post graduate coordinator for the Food Technology and Innovation department, spoke about the benefits of a postgraduate degree saying, “Postgraduate degrees can offer applicants a stepping stone in doctoral level research and a career in research.” By elevating collection, analytical and interpretative skills, a postgraduate degree can open doors to a variety of different career paths.

At Harper Adams we offer both an MSc in Food Industry Management for those who are looking for a step up in their current career in the food industry and related industry sectors as well of a range of MRes qualifications in Food, Food Security, Food Policy and Supply Chains which can also offer applicants a stepping stone in doctoral level research and a career in research. From September, we are also offering two MRes partially funded by the Meat Industry in Meat Quality and Hygiene, here within the department of Food Technology and Innovation. These MSc and MRes programmes can also be funded using Student Loans.

Postgraduate degrees can also be obtained alongside your current work.  Jane commented on the accessibility of postgraduate study; “Courses are taught in one week blocks; a perfect fit for the working life.” We endeavour to support all of our students through their studies, continuing through to postgraduate level; whether you are working alongside your studies or not, a postgraduate degree is achievable.
